From 2002 to 2011, she donated blood 46 times and her blood cells nine times.
In May 2006, she became a member of the China bone marrow donor project, paying a return visit to 2,500 candidate stem cell donors.
Since May 2008, she has offered volunteer services in her spare time to aid the elderly with no living family members to care for them, as well as disabled children in Cangzhou city.
As a staff worker, she has passed along her love and inspired many others to continue on with the Lei Feng spirit over the past few years.
Her name is Yuan Li, a staff worker of the material assets division of Cangzhou Dahua Group under the parent company of ChinaChem.
People familiar with Yuan Li say that she was always the first among others to volunteer. She raised donations for victims of the Wenchuan Earthquake, Taiwan floods, Qinghai Yushu Earthquake, and leukemia children, and World HIV/AIDS Day publicity activities.
In 2008, the Wenchuan Earthquake shocked the country and countless rescue teams hurried to the disaster area. Yuan worked daily to raise donations and recruit volunteers. For four consecutive days, she sat in front of the Red Cross service hot lines to answer inquiries from the public.
In 2008, Yuan walked to the square in front of the Jianxin mansion under the banner of Cangzhou Red Cross volunteers committee, she told people to “curb HIV/AIDS and fulfill our commitments.” She showed her concern for HIV/AIDS patients.
Before the International Autism Day in 2011, Yuan participated in a calligraphy and painting charity bazaar, organized by the Olive Peizhi School, Cangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Red Cross Society, to aid children in the “You are not Alone” event.
In the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2011, Yuan called for volunteers to raise donations and sent them to six poverty-stricken families as a gesture of love during the festival that was held in the rain.
Yuan initiated three activities in 2011 to “protect the mother river and walk along the Great Canal.” Volunteers picked up plastic rubbish while telling children the history of the Great Canal, acquainting them with environment protection and social ethics.
Yuan was absorbed in voluntary activities. She collected materials, sorted them out, and recorded them in her notebooks for long-term applications.
In the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2010, Yuan delivered goods and cash to nine elderly persons with no families in Wulongtang Township, Cangxian County.
In the spring of 2010, Yuan led five volunteers to send gifts to five impoverished families in downtown areas to celebrate festivals. The families suffered from uremia for years, struck by traffic accidents, or were disabled without any source of incomes.
In 2011, Yuan and volunteers delivered 92 winter clothes and 20 quilts to Cangxian Dusheng seniors’ home.
In 2010 and 2011, Du led volunteers to send 1,100 winter clothes to the elderly without children in Xianzhuang village, Haixing County.
In 2002, Yuan stepped into the Cangzhou blood bank for the first time soon after celebrating her 30th birthday. Seeing her blood flow into the medical storage bag, she came up with a brave idea. She would donate blood every year to help others. In May 2006, the blood bank recruited new candidates to donate stem cells. She donated stem cells to the bone marrow bank in the country. Additionally, she took the blood donation room as a volunteer service base and organized volunteers to donate blood without receiving payments and become candidates to donate stem cells. In 2009, Yuan was elected by a group of volunteers as the appointed chief of the free blood donations section of the Cangzhou Red Cross Society. In 2010, she was elected as instructor of a free blood donation volunteer service team.
As chief of the free blood donations service, Yuan periodically paid return visits every year. From December 2010 to early 2011, she organized visits to 2,500 candidates of stem cell donors in the city. She organized three activities for the June 14 World Blood Donor Day and participated in free blood donation volunteer services for 216 hours. People familiar with Yuan say that she simply wants to help more people. In 2008, she was awarded with the honorary title of outstanding volunteer of Hebei province for earthquake and disaster relief works. In 2009, she was conferred an honorary title of the volunteer star of Hebei province. In 2010, she won honorary titles of outstanding Red Cross volunteers and one-star Red Cross volunteer in Cangzhou city. In 2011, she was officially recognized as an outstanding youth of Hebei province.
In the past decade, Yuan has passed on the love and the spirit of Lei Feng with her dedication. She believes it is her duty to extend love. She plans to continue on volunteering.
