The signature ceremony for the acquisition of Rhodia's Silicone businesses by China Bluestar Corporation was held on Oct 26, 2006 in Beijing. Bluestar will now rank third in the worldwide silicone market with a silicone monomer capacity of 420,000 tons per year, up from its former sixth ranking.

The transaction will allow Bluestar to take over all the technology patents, manufacturing plants as well as the sales network dedicated to Rhodia’s silicone business. Bluestar will be transformed from the leading company in the domestic silicone market into a global giant.

After acquiring Rhodia’s silicone business, Bluestar will start to execute the 400,000 tons/year silicon project construction plan. This new plant will add to the stable and efficient operations of the existing businesses and enlarge the domestic silicon production scale and enhance the industrial network. Furthermore, the organic silicone deep-process technology, global sales network, strong R&D abilities and excellent management team will equip Bluestar to enjoy favorable competitive advantages and keep ahead in all aspects of technology.   

Rhodia Silicones is one of the major integrated silicone producers with world leading positions in such markets as engineered elastomers (used in molding applications, health care and automotive industries), paper release coatings (used in packaging, labels or adhesives) and textile coating (airbags, technical fabrics, lingerie).
