To fight the unusual snow storm, the Sinochem subsidiaries, in light of the requirements of Sinochem Corporation, have endeavored to take active moves to guarantee the operations, to keep dangers away and to reduce the loss to the minimum while making donations to the disaster-stricken area.
The Oil Group has formulated the specific measures and issued “Urgent Notice to Guard against the Catastrophic Weather”, checking up with the subsidiaries on safety on a daily basis. Sinochem Nantong Company has carefully examined the open air facilities including oil delivery consoles, oil delivery pumps, billboards, cables and wires, cleaned up the snow in a timely fashion and prevented the facilities from collapsing, freezing or blackout. Shanghai Orient Terminal has highlighted anti-freezing, anti-concretion and anti-skidding measures. Sinochem Yangzhou has suspended the ongoing construction works, reinforced the shelters, kept an eye on the electrical appliances, cables and other precautionary facilities, ceaselessly removed the snow and prevented the roofs from falling down. Sinochem Total Oil Products Company has investigated all the gas stations under construction and operations one by one, suspended the construction of Xixiashu station in Changzhou City and postponed the opening of the new gas stations in Yangzhou and Nanjing.
The Fertilizer Group has sent out the “Notice of Requirement on Works of Anti-snowstorm and Anti-freezing” and “Supplementary Emergency Notice”, collected the daily updates of the disaster and appealed to its distribution centers and production plants, especially those located in the south, for taking part in the relief undertakings. In the snow storm collapsed seven warehouses in Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Jiangxi, no casualties or serious loss incurred, though, and the insurance claim has been right under way. The distribution centers have reinforced the safety management of the warehouses and ensured the relief work to be carried out in an orderly way. With regard to the delay of goods unloading due to the wretched weather, the distribution centers in Hunan and Anhui took various measures to preserve the goods. Now the distribution centers in the southern area are working closely with the local farmers to recover the farming and to guarantee the spring ploughing.
The City of Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, one of the worst-hit areas, suffered serious breakage of the electrical wires, fall of the telegraph poles and the transport and energy systems were caught in a perfect snow storm. Jiangxi Sanmei Chemicals Co. Ltd. and Xingguozhongying Minerals Co. Ltd., two local subsidiaries of Sinochem, were forced to suspend the production. The two companies started the contingency plans off immediately and appealed to the whole staff to protect the assets. Yu Guangyuan, General Manager of Jiangxi Sanmei, gave up the Spring Festival vacation and stayed on the post to fight against the disaster with the staff. Now the both companies have resumed the production.
In Ningbo, the sudden snowfall brought the express mailing business to a halt and Sinochem Ningbo failed to mail out the business documents in time. The blockage of the express high way prevented the goods from delivery… Sinochem Ningbo strived to prepare the force majeure certificate to avoid the business misunderstandings of the customers.
In Guangdong Province, the snow fall caused serious energy and transport failures, hundreds of thousands of the people were stranded in Guangzhou Train Station. Sinochem Guangdong organized the volunteers to help the local police to keep the order in the railway station and distribute food and mineral water to the miserable passengers.
By the time of this release, there was not major accident taking place in Sinochem Corporation as whole. The whole staff are working hard together to reduce the loss to the minimum.
